Florida Wind-Load Engineering & CAD Coordination

Truss systems in Florida must be designed for the wind speed, exposure category, and uplift identified on the construction documents. Our design team prepares truss layouts and individual truss designs from your plans and coordinates with your architect and engineer of record.

SPAN PER PLAN

What design coordination includes

Depending on your project, the truss package process can include:

  • Truss placement / layout drawings
  • Individual truss design drawings showing loads, reactions, and plates
  • Bearing and uplift reactions for connector selection by the designer
  • Girder and multi-ply truss connection requirements
  • Permanent bracing notes per industry guidance (e.g. BCSI)

Responsibilities

The building designer or engineer of record remains responsible for the overall structure, load path, and connection of trusses to supporting elements. Truss designs are prepared for the specific loading criteria provided on the construction documents.

Revisions and RFIs

When plans change, send the revised sheets with changes clouded. Our team will identify affected trusses and update the layout before production.

Frequently asked

Which design wind speed do you use?
We use the design criteria on your engineer's structural sheets. If wind speed, risk category, or exposure are missing, we'll ask before designing.
